GI vs Pure Copper vs Copper Bonded
| Parameter | GI Earthing | Pure Copper | Copper Bonded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial Cost | Economical | Higher | Medium to High |
| Conductivity | Good for general use | Excellent | Very Good |
| Corrosion Resistance | Depends on galvanization and soil | High | High when bonding quality is adequate |
| Mechanical Strength | Good | Moderate | High |
| Best Suited For | General industrial and commercial projects | Critical and sensitive installations | Long-life industrial and infrastructure projects |
Low Ohm Reading Does Not Prove Good Earthing Material
A low resistance reading may be caused by favourable moisture, temporary conditions or parallel metallic paths. It does not prove adequate pipe thickness, correct copper purity, sufficient copper bonding, proper galvanization, genuine dimensions, strong terminals or durable welding.
Earthing Quality = Correct Design + Quality Material + Correct Installation + Verified Testing + Maintenance
A 0.5 Ω reading today is not a certificate of long-term safety, fault-current capacity or corrosion resistance.

Why Soil Resistivity Matters
Earth is not a uniform conductor. Soil composition, moisture, depth, temperature, seasonal variation, electrode spacing and geological layers directly affect the measured result.
- Measure or assess soil resistivity before final design.
- Do not assume two electrodes will halve the resistance.
- Use wider spacing, deeper electrodes, horizontal conductors or a grid when required.
- Verify test method, connections and seasonal conditions.
No Universal One-Ohm Rule for Every Installation
The required value depends on the application, project specification, soil resistivity, fault current, protection clearing time, touch voltage, step voltage, bonding and the complete earthing design.
A low number is useful where required—but it cannot replace complete engineering.
Chemical Earthing Installation Steps

Chemical Earthing Questions
What is chemical earthing?
Chemical earthing uses an engineered electrode with earth enhancement compound to improve effective soil contact and support fault-current dissipation.
Which electrode is better: GI, copper or copper bonded?
The correct selection depends on corrosion, conductivity, mechanical strength, service life, soil and budget.
Does a larger diameter guarantee lower resistance?
No. Diameter alone does not determine the final value. Soil resistivity, depth, spacing, grid area and bonding are also important.
Can you guarantee less than 1 ohm?
A universal guarantee is not technically responsible without site and soil assessment. The target must be based on the application and project criteria.
Do you provide installation and testing?
SN Engineering supports supply, BOQ review, installation coordination, technical guidance and earth resistance testing for selected projects.
Can chemical earthing be used with lightning protection?
Yes, when designed as part of the complete lightning protection system including air termination, down conductor, bonding and earth termination.
Which accessories are required?
Typical accessories include backfill compound, chamber, GI/copper strip, clamps, couplers, terminal hardware and test links.
Do you supply across India?
Yes. Industrial and infrastructure enquiries are supported across major Indian markets and selected export destinations.
